(On Stage at Baylor University: l-r (Alysia Chen, Yi Zhang and Amanda Chen)
Centennial High School Orchestra violinists take a break on stage at Baylor University Saturday, September 8th. They were among a group of Frisco ISD High School Orchestra students that participated in the All-State Etudes and Excerpts Workshop with Baylor University String Faculty. In addition to the workshop, students experienced campus life, having lunch on campus, and received valuable information about the college admission process. Centennial High School Orchestra Director, Dr. Priscilla Holt organized the trip. “This is the first of our music-based college/university visits this year,” she remarked. “Students and parents don’t realize that many colleges and universities offer financial scholarships to high school orchestra students to perform throughout their undergraduate and graduate years with their college and university orchestras even when they are not majoring in music!” Dr. Holt concluded, “These financial incentives make it easier for orchestra students to continue to become contributing members of full symphony orchestras, continue to hone and share their musical talents regardless of their academic major. It’s a win-win opportunity for everyone!”
